Sörmland photo salon

Sörmländsk fotossalong, photo salon, is a juried exhibition which is annually organized in the community centre Koordinaten, The Coordinate, in Oxelösund. Every year, the photo salon has a theme for the participants to work on, and in 2017 the theme “Party”. At the opening of the photo salon, the award of 5 000 sek is presented to one of the participating photographers.

Who can participate?
The photo salon is open to all who reside in the counties of Södermanland, with the exception of Stockholm, Nacka and Huddinge municipalities. There are no other criteria – everyone is welcome to participate regardless of age and experience.

When is it?
The salon opens with the exhibition in Oxelösund in June 2017 and is going on until the end of August. New for 2017 is that the salon will also be displayed at other locations in Sörmland in the autumn of -17. Submission of work for assessment is in May. Exact dates, venues and details on submission will be announced at the latest in January 2017.

 How to go about it?
Techniques can be many in the manufacturing of photographic works, and the salon does not make a between traditional photographing and processed photo, but we like to see that the photographer has worked actively with the theme in the image. If you select already existing images out of your previous production, these should not be older than five years.  Each participant can submit up to five images for evaluation in physical or digital form. These shall be supplemented with a short explanatory statement of the theme. A catalogue will be produced which state the exhibitor's name, the work's title, price and in some cases justification and a picture of it.

Important to know and good to think about
• Physical works must be assembled and ready for hanging. On the back, they shall be provided with the photographer's name and the title of the work.
• At the sale of the works the organizer takes out a commission of 35 % on the selling price.
• They adopted images to hang throughout the exhibition.
• If you are involved with digital works - announce on the registration form if it is up for sale and in that case the price, after you printed and framed the work.
• The digital images accepted for the exhibition can become a part of a slide show.
• Very small sized images will not always come to its right in a large gallery.
• The quality of the photo paper, passepartout and frames can be decisive for how the viewer perceives the image.
All sorts of issues relating to the photo salon is set to culture coordinator Marie.
